Photographing dance is almost certainly the hardest subject I’ve ever been commissioned to shoot, and I love it.
Dance is not just about cutting the right shapes on the dance floor. Dance is about timing, and relationship, and space. Add to that costume, and setting, and lighting.
Blimey, what a subject.
The goal for a dance photographer is to capture in the frame what you feel you see in your eye. Get that right and the photograph is not just a record of a moment, it’s beauty - that’s choreography too.
Dance photography makes me sweat.
